Wine
Penfolds Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon, very rarely made, is steeped in Barossa Valley heritage. Only when the Cabernet is outstanding is it released as a single vineyard wine and not blended in other wines.
The four hectare Block 42 was planted just 30 years after the great 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It is now the oldest planting of continuously producing Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the world.
The fruit is handpicked and begins fermentation in headed down, static fermenters. The wine completes fermentation in new oak hogsheads before undergoing a further 13 months of barrel ageing.
Deep inky red, Penfolds Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon has fine, silky tannins in perfect harmony with its richly concentrated fruit flavours. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
